With the arrival of the railroad in 1847, dairy farming exploded into an industry that would dominate the Bedford landscape for nearly 100 years. As one long-time resident describes it, “Cows were ubiquitous in Bedford.” And enterprises such as Brooks Dairy and Rock Gate Dairy – along with their milkmen -- were fixtures of daily life.

When the Cows Came Home brings Bedford’s dairy era to life -- with photographs, maps, farm tools, milk bottles and other artifacts from Bedford’s historic farms and dairies.

We Need your Help!
We are putting out an APB on historical information regarding farming in Bedford Hills and the surrounding area
So much of the history regarding farming, dairies and other agricultural enterprises in the Bedford Hills vicinity is just not written down or preserved anywhere!
In creating the Museum's upcoming dairy/farming exhibit, we are asking that any area residents with stories to tell, or memories and artifacts regarding farming to share, please download the form below and take a moment to fill it out and drop it by the Museum in the basement of the Town House so we can include it in our upcoming exhibit on Farming.
